This year carnival only happens in March, but the fun started already with the TV-Globo program “Caldeirão do Huck”. Caldeirão do Huck is a Brazilian television evening, produced and broadcasted by Rede Globo, which airs on Saturdays from 16.12 to 18.15. It premiered on 8 April 2000, always under the command of Luciano Huck.

The contest “Musa do Carnaval 2011” started Saturday January 29. In this first program, the first candidates of Rio de Janeiro entered the “Avenue”. In this first round among the competing samba schools were São Clemente, Imperatriz, Mocidade, Unidos da Tijuca, Vila Isabel and Mangueira.
While the beautiful blondes, redheads and mulattos showed they can dance the samba, a team of judges decided who is going to the next round.

In total, there are 12 contestants from Rio de Janeiro and another 14 from São Paulo. Besides the initial candidates from Rio, the carioca list is complemented by União da Ilha, Salgueiro, Portela, Grande Rio, Porto da Pedra and Beija-Flor.

In São Paulo, the muses of the following associations will dance on the catwalk of Caldeirão do Huck: Unidos do Peruche,Tom Maior, Acadêmicos do Tucuruvi, Rosas de Ouro, Mancha-Verde, Vai-Vai e Pérola Negra, Nenê de Vila Matilde, Águia de Ouro, Mocidade Alegre, Unidos de Vila Maria, X9, Gáviões da Fiel e Império da Casa Verde.

February 5, the mulattos and blondes of São Paulo will also have to prove that they can dance the samba. In the first Paulista selection muses of the following schools will dance during the TV-program: Unidos do Peruche, Tom Maior, Acadêmicos do Tucuruvi, Rosas de Ouro, Mancha Verde, Vai Vai and Pérola Negra.

The second round takes place in São Paulo on February 19 when Nenê de Vila Matilde, Águia de Ouro, Mocidade Alegre, Unidos de Vila Maria, X-9 Paulistana, Gaviões da Fiel e Império de Casa Verde, show their muses.

There will be six TV-programs dedicated to the contest of the Musa do Carnaval 2011. For Rio de Janeiro the final will take place on Saturday, February 26, and for São Paulo during carnival, on March 5. Before the finals, there will be two selection rounds for each of the states.
