The parades of the samba schools of São Paulo were held at the Sambódromo do Anhembi and started late on Friday 4 March, followed by Saturday night. In all, 14 schools marched in the capital’s avenue.

The first samba school to parade was United Peruche, followed, in order, by the samba schools Tom Major, Acadêmicos do Tucuruvi, the atual champion Rosas de Ouro, Mancha Verde, Vai-Vai and Pérola Negra.

During the night of Saturday to Sunday, Nenê de Vila Matilde opened the parade, folowed by Águia de Ouro, Mocidade Alegre, Unidos de Vila Maria, X-9 Paulistana, Gaviões da Fiel and last but not least Império de Casa Verde.

Angela Bismarchi, Godmother of the drum band of Nenê de Vila Matilde, paraded with a crown, which features 3,000 crystals, worth more than USD 12,500. She wore a codpiece of only 3 cm, covered by a layer of crystals. The crown was formed from horsehair.

I collected a series of photos of the carnival beauties (Musas do Carnaval 2011) parading in São Paulo. Enjoy. It’s a long session. Thirty photos of muses after the break.
